Attorney in Midland, Michigan: Estate Planning and Probate
Estate Plans Tailored to the Needs of Each Individual Client
At the Family Law Office of Barbara E. Maurer, in Midland, I have over 21 years of experience providing estate planning and probate advice to individuals throughout mid-Michigan. I know that estate planning and probate can be complex and confusing. I break down the process, explaining it in terms you can understand, so that you can make informed decisions about how your assets will be distributed. Contact my office to set up an initial consultation.
My Estate Planning Practice
I will work closely with you to understand the details of your estate, as well as your estate planning objectives. I will then help you understand the different strategies for accomplishing your goals, including the use of wills, trusts and other dispositive documents, the re-titling of assets and lifetime gifting. Once you have determined the approach that best meets your needs, I will review and prepare all the documents required to establish and implement your estate plan, including:
- Wills, including simple wills
- Trusts, including special needs trusts
- Powers of attorney
- Living wills or health care directives
I can also help you establish a guardianship or conservatorship when minor children are involved.
My Probate Practice
If you have been named as executor, administrator or personal representative of an estate in Michigan, I can help you successfully fulfill the requirements of the probate court and settle the estate. The Michigan legislature substantially overhauled the probate court system in the last few years, making the process more accommodating and less intimidating. Though you don't need to fear or try to avoid probate, you still want an experienced lawyer to guide you through the process. I will help you:
- Put together a comprehensive inventory of the assets of the estate
- Obtain determinations of value, if necessary
- Satisfy final debts and tax obligations of the estate
- Oversee the orderly distribution of assets according to the terms of the will
This firm does not give free initial consultations for the reason that most attorneys use them as an opportunity to interview the potential client. This firm uses all conference and meeting times with the client to attempt to address the client's issues. Consequently, since the client is receiving legal assistance, they are charged for the time spent.
For experienced representation in estate planning and probate matters, contact me to schedule a consultation. My office is open Monday through Friday, from 8 a.m. until 5 p.m., and appointments may be scheduled outside of office hours upon request. Payment plans may be available.
